This May, for National Preservation Month, we’re celebrating the power of place with a members-only behind-the-scenes tour of Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego!
Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Fort Ontario has witnessed centuries of history. Earlier forts built here saw battles during the French and Indian War and the War of 1812. The current fort, rebuilt in the 1840s, served as a U.S. Army training site through World War II, and became the only Holocaust refugee shelter in the United States, sheltering 982 refugees.
Explore Fort Ontario’s historic grounds, casemates, barracks, officers’ quarters, and powder magazine—bringing centuries of history to life!
